There’s nary a cheesesteak in sight: This new, LEED-certified Kimpton hotel near Philly’s Rittenhouse Square offers a classy, quirky take on this city’s storied history. It’s a hip addition to a city that sorely needed hotels beyond the usual chain offerings. Pop Art-style portraits of Founding Fathers -- or, shall we say, the Founders of yore -- greet you in a lobby that also boasts cozy velvet furniture and a fireplace. Colorful, modern guest rooms await upstairs, as do the usual Kimpton perks of free Wi-Fi for regular guests and a hosted wine hour each evening.
The location’s close to public transit that can whisk you right to 30th St. Station, hub of high-speed Amtrak trains to D.C., New York, Boston, and elsewhere, as well as to City Hall and the Comcast Center, the towering hub of Philly’s most influential player in digital media and communications. You’re surrounded by shopping and dining options that are guaranteed to surprise any out-of-towner who’s bought into the misconception that the City of Brotherly Love has little to offer besides Revolutionary War reenactments, legendarily unhealthy food, and a football team with an extremely devoted fan base. Make sure to check out the Square 1682 restaurant downstairs, but explore a little as well -- Philly’s foodie scene is an impressive, well-kept secret.
Kimpton hotels are one of the best boutique hotels for the price. The Palomar was no exception. Modern hotel, great location & rates.
