I have had the exact opposite experience. Last year, I stayed in Time Square for ~$250/nt using FC, and Marriot's Best Rate was ~$350/nt. I am a Bonvoy member, and not only did the hotel observe my status (which wouldn't occur if I booked outside Marriott with any other travel company), I also got my full bonus points with an upgraded suite.
