Don’t let the calm exterior of this Beacon Hill hotel fool you. Bostonians were never ones to crow. Yet the 63 room hotel has much to be proud of. With only seven rooms per floor, the hotel feels like a poshly appointed residential home. Each of the rooms is, discretely, crammed with luxury touches from Frette linens to marble baths to a color scheme of taupe and espresso. The lobby too combines classicism with modern art: the color field paintings of Jules Oritski are offset by a tasteful overstuffed sofa on a zebra print rug and miraculously the whole things works.
But it’s also the service — that great unseeable intangible — that turns the hotel into a..ahem..beacon. This can be felt whilst being chauffeured in the complementary Lexus GX460 or while dining at Mooo, a contemporary steakhouse whose menu is much more tasteful than its name. A Wagyu steak frites, eaten in the wine cellar under a 5th century Roman mosaic, with a bottle of 2008 Dominus is, in fact, the epitome of good taste.
Excellent hotel with great service in a great location.
